Bonds Sports Memorabilia Losing Value?

Bond's 762nd home run ball sells for $376,612

Going once, going twice, outta here!

Hard times in the sports memorabilia auction industry - so hard that in its glowing self-appraisal, SCP Auctions had to drop its before-the-fact claim that Barry Bonds' 762nd home run was "expected to draw bids approaching $1 million."

Oops.

The auction closed Saturday night with a top bid of $376,612. That's a nice windfall for 24-year-old Jameson Sutton, a Colorado Rockies fan who will use the money for medical expenses as his stepfather battles cancer.

But you have to wonder how much the experts know about the market if they're going to overestimate so wildly. (On the other hand, the Giants themselves did sign Barry Zito.)

Sports Memorabilia UK Is Cracking Down

Court clash of sports memorabilia accused partners

TWO business partners accused of forging and selling sports stars’ signatures turned on each other in court yesterday.

Faisal Madani, 43, and Graeme Walker, 45, allegedly faked autographs of Pele, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and Ian Rush and a host of other mega-stars on sports memorabilia at Walker’s Sporting Icons store in Chester. Both men deny dozens of charges under the Trades Descriptions Act.

Alex Rodriguez & Derek Jeter Signed Yankees Baseball

This is an interesting auction that closed for $151.59. It looks like the seller took the picture of the baseball from a helicopter. In the auction it states that all autographed items were either obtained at a private signing, shows, other dealers, or through the mail. It also says that all items come with a COA from North East Sports.

Of course, we can't tell if the signatures are real or not but it is amazing that someone would pay over $100 for a baseball that you can't even see the signatures.
